40 Days for Life is an ecumenical ministry dedicated to saving the lives of unborn children and their mothers. It consists of praying that mothers facing a difficult pregnancy will choose life for their children. This year the 40 days will run from September 28 to November 6.
The primary way to participate is through in–person prayer at an abortion facility. This year the prayer vigils from 7 AM to 7 PM every day will take place at American Women’s Medical Center at 2744 N. Western Avenue in Chicago. These vigils are peaceful and seek to change hearts. Thousands of babies and mothers have been saved, and, across the nation, literally hundreds of clinic workers have converted based on peaceful vigils (On October 17 we are showing the movie Unplanned which tells the story of one such worker).
You can sign up for specific vigil hours at https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/chicago, or contact Paul Fairbanks of our Respect Life Committee at email@example.com. If you would like to attend, please let Paul know.
You can also participate by praying at home or church. If you would like to be part of a 40 day prayer group, please contact Paul. Given the reversal of Roe v. Wade, it is more important than ever that we be a visible sign of God’s love to young women facing difficult choices. As you probably know, the law in Illinois is the most pro-abortion of any state in the country and actually as expansive as that of any nation on earth. As such, Illinois has become a destination for women seeking abortions, including purely for the purpose of sex–selection or eliminating disabled children who aren’t “good-enough.”
Please help 40 Days for Life in the effort to save lives.

Other Chicago LIFE Events for October 2022
First Saturday’s For Life is an attempt to transform Chicago from a city of lies into a city of LIFE. Abortion advocates have attempted to escalate their engagement with the growing pro-life movement by attacking churches, pregnancy centers, and people. Their hope is that we, as God-fearing people who love LIFE, will either back down or become hostile ourselves. First Saturday’s for Life will allow us to neither back down nor escalate. NO SIGNS, NO SLOGANS, NO SHOUTING. JUST MEN PRAYING FOR ONE HOUR ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH. CLICK NOW TO ENLIST! – Women are also encouraged to join.
Join Simply Pro-Life’s Hope Miller, Abby Johnson, and others for their Pro-Life teen event on Saturday, October 1 in Barrington at the Barrington Life Campus from 10AM to 3PM.
The 40 Days for Life opening Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, October 2nd at 5 PM at St. Alphonsus Church in Chicago (1429 W. Wellington Avenue). This Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Bartosic. Sign-up for 40 Days for Life, First Saturday’s for Life, and sidewalk counseling will follow. Praise God! Bishop Bartosic continues to prioritize the sanctity of LIFE! Please include Bishop Bartosic and the clergy of Chicagoland in your prayers.
The March for Life Palatine will be held on Saturday, October 8 from 1PM to 3PM and begins at the St. Theresa’s Church in Palatine in the Dolan Center gymnasium (455 N. Benton St.).
