December 2021 – January 2022

Remembering the Holy Innocents – On December 28th, we remember the Holy Innocents, the children of Bethlehem martyred by King Herod in his greed for power. Many parishes place white crosses in their grounds on and after this feast, remembering this quote from St. Augustine regarding the Holy Innocents: And while he thus persecutes Christ, he furnished an army (of martyrs) clothed in white robes of the same age as the Lord.

Here at St. Mother Theodore Guerin parish the school children have created this memorial to the Holy Innocents, as well as those lost due to the Roe v. Wade decision and legalized abortion.

However, because the children lost would have all brought different gifts to humanity, each of these crosses is different. Those lost now all wear the “white robe” of martyrdom, but we mourn the loss of their diverse personalities and gifts which would have so enriched our lives.

Holy Innocents, pray for us!
