We are a new parish formed July 1, 2018 with the merging of St. Cyprian (1927-2018) of River Grove, Illinois and St. Celestine (1930-2018) of Elmwood Park and Chicago, Illinois through the Renew My Church program of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We now share resources to implement the Renew My Church vision: to make disciples, build community, and inspire witness. St. Celestine and St. Cyprian churches are used as the worship sites, and St. Celestine School is now the parish school.

St. Mother Guerin Parish offers many services to its parishioners, school families, and the greater surrounding community. Your participation is valued, encouraged, rewarding, and needed.

If you would like to become a parishioner, please call the parish office at 708-453-2555.

Worship

The Mass, also called Eucharist, is the center of life for the Catholic Church. This is where Catholics meet together as a community to receive the actual Body and Blood of Jesus who saved us. It is a place to worship and to praise and thank God for all he has done for us.

As a parish community we rejoice that you are joining us in our journey of faith. We invite you to become involved in the spiritual life of our parish through your presence at Mass and your participation in the liturgical ministries and prayer services we offer.

Education

St. Mother Guerin provides opportunities to learn more about our faith, seeking to instill Gospel values and promote spiritual growth.

Our elementary school, St. Celestine, provides a quality academic foundation fostering opportunities for academic, physical, and spiritual development in an atmosphere of peace, safety, hope, and love.

The Religious Education program is for students in first through eighth grade who attend public school or are home schooled. The Special Religious Education program is for children and adults with special needs.

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is for adults interested in becoming Catholic. OCIA for Teens is for high school students.

Sacraments

During sacramental preparation, we are blessed with a period of learning through grace and of growth in faith. With the support and prayers of the parish faith family, sacramental candidates learn about our Catholic faith, relationship with the Trinitarian God, and what it means to be both a disciple and an apostle.

Whether it is a Sacrament of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist or Confirmation; Sacrament of Healing – Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick; or Sacrament of Vocation – Marriage, we all grow stronger in faith as companions on the journey.

Ministries

There are many ways to be of service to the people of our parish. Some ministries need occasional participation, and others have the need of more regular service. By becoming involved you will find our community will be more vitalized, as will your own life. Some activities take place at St. Celestine, some at St. Cyprian, and some at both church sites.

We all celebrate together at Mass, and there are many ways to participate more fully in our celebration, on the weekends, during the week, and on special occasions. Many of our parishioners currently serve the St. Mother Guerin faith family in different liturgical ministries, and you are invited to explore how you can best use your gifts to enhance worship.

We also reach out to serve our parish and community through a variety of programs including hosting a food pantry.

Organizations

Enrich your own life as well as our parish community by joining one of our organizations: Men’s Club, Women’s Club, Knights of Columbus, Hospitality Committee, Parent’s Club, Athletic Committee, and Scouts.
