The Bible Study for Lent, called “Journeying in Hope with Jesus to Jerusalem,” was offered during Lent 2025 on Wednesday with Fr. Stan Ilo who shared and reflected on the Gospel of Luke – Fr. Stan is an Associate Professor at De Paul University, where his classes are very popular, and has written many books. He is also a resident in our parish.
This Year the Church’s liturgical cycle (C) focuses on the Gospel of Luke. We invited parishioners to join Fr. Stan Chu Ilo on a journey of faith studying and praying the Gospel of Luke. This Gospel has been a source of inspiration for Christians for almost two thousand years. Hymns such as Gloria, and Magnificat introduced into Christian worship, and prayers like Hail Mary and the custom of the Christmas manger introduced by St Francis of Assisi were all inspired by Luke’s Gospel.
Luke is written to help Christians to grow in faith by leading them to see Jesus as Savior, Messiah, and Son of God (Luke 1: 35; 2:11). Christians who read the Gospel of Luke are also led to the truth of the Gospel, Christianity and the Church (Luke 1:4) as they meditate on the divinely inspired word that communicates to Christians what God has revealed for our salvation and for healing, and liberation.
